Hello Friends,

Some of the most important work happens beneath the surface. We see the finished website, hear the completed story, or use the new technology, but we don't always see the thought, testing, and refinement behind it.

In this issue, we look behind the screen at what makes a custom website ready to serve, from user experience and privacy to chatbots and AI agents. We also pause to remember the courage of the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 in the newly updated 25th anniversary edition of The Last Flight.

You’ll also find upcoming learning opportunities, podcast appearances, and resources to help you work smarter while staying human.

With purpose and pixels,
Audrey “Tech Diva” Wiggins

Not Ready Before Its Time: The Unseen Craft Behind a Custom Website

Good wine is not ready before its time. Its character develops through a deliberate process. I know this from my dad, who crafted homemade wine.
The same is true of a custom website.

Visitors see the colors, images, words, and buttons. What they do not see are the decisions and technical layers that make the website useful, reliable, and designed with compliance in mind.

In the early days of website design, businesses competed to add the most bells and whistles, including animated flames and loud music. Then came the “walk-on” video spokesperson, who appeared over the page to welcome visitors, explain an offer, or point toward the next step. It was impressive early technology when it worked.

Today’s websites favor calmer layouts, subtler movement, clear navigation, and purposeful calls to action. They are also becoming more interactive behind the scenes.

Unlike a walk-on presenter delivering a prerecorded message, a chatbot can answer questions and guide visitors to relevant information. An AI agent may go further by helping them complete a task or begin a process. Clients can add chatbots and AI agents to their websites through the Content Creator Machine digital marketing platform.

These tools also introduce additional privacy considerations. Website owners should understand what information their forms, analytics, chatbots, agents, and other third-party tools collect, where it goes, and how it is used. Privacy notices should reflect those practices.

A cookie banner must do more than appear. Depending on applicable requirements, it may need to offer meaningful choices, prevent certain technologies from activating before consent, and honor visitors’ decisions to accept, reject, or change their preferences.

Before launching or after major updates, experience the website as a visitor. Use a private or incognito window. Test links and interactive features. Ask the chatbot real questions. Follow the agent’s workflow. Accept and reject cookies. Check the site on a desktop, tablet, and smartphone.

A website may look finished and still not be ready. Every feature should serve a purpose, support the user experience (UX), and work properly. Like a good wine, a custom website needs testing and refinement before it is ready to serve.

Tech Diva Biz Talks: Smart Conversations for Entrepreneurs

"The Last Flight: 25th Anniversary Edition"

Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, I revisited one of the most meaningful stories I have shared on Tech Diva Biz Talks.

Originally released in 2018, The Last Flight recounts the story of United Flight 93 and honors the 40 passengers and crew members whose courage prevented an even greater tragedy. This updated anniversary edition includes a new personal reflection and photographs from my June visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

It is a story of an ordinary morning, unimaginable circumstances, and extraordinary courage, a remembrance of those who boarded a flight but never returned home.

Another Story of Courage

As I revisited September 11, I learned more about the extraordinary response in Gander, Newfoundland. When 38 diverted planes arrived carrying more than 6,600 people, residents opened their homes, schools, and community spaces—offering food, shelter, and comfort to strangers during an unthinkable time.

Gander was part of an even larger effort. Across Canada, Operation Yellow Ribbon handled 224 diverted planes and more than 33,000 displaced passengers.

It is another powerful reminder of the humanity that emerged from tragedy. Watch the CBS News story.

The Wrap-Up

Thanks for reading.

This issue reminds us that what happens behind the scenes shapes what people ultimately experience. Whether you are building a website, adding an AI tool, or sharing a meaningful story, thoughtful decisions and careful testing make a difference.

Technology should help people find information, make decisions, and take the next step, not become an obstacle in their way.

To everyone observing Rosh Hashanah, may your year be filled with peace and prosperity.

Until next time…

Stay smart. Stay strategic. Stay tech-tuned.
— Audrey, The Tech Diva
