"Fixing our eyes on Jesus..."
- Hebrews 12:2
D.L. Moody wrote, “If you want to be wretched, look within. If you want to be distracted and fearful, look around. If you want to be peaceful and happy, look up. If we look within, we see our sin and failure to live like Him. If we look at our circumstances, we see they are never exactly what we want them to be. If we look at the world through the lens of Scripture, we see a “crooked and perverse generation” where “destruction and misery are in their paths, and the path of peace have they not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” But, that is not to be our focus. In the words of Isaiah, “Lift up your eyes” and see the greatness of God in creation. Look up, realizing He has made you a new creation in Christ. Corrie Ten Boom said it this way, “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest.” And when the woes of the world begin to consume you, Jesus would say, “then look up, and lift your heads: for your redemption draweth nigh.” Be encouraged!
