“Spring doesn't ask permission; it arrives with muddy shoes and open arms. It reminds us of the importance of balance, renewal, and fresh starts. It is how hope finds expression.”

Celebrations

Have you ever wondered how International Women’s Day, Women’s History Month, St. Patrick’s Day, the Spring Equinox, and Easter all land in the same stretch of the calendar?

They seem unrelated at first glance, yet they share deeper threads of renewal, balance, and the role of women in shaping culture.

In ancient Celtic societies, women held equal legal and social standing with men. They could choose their partners, divorce, receive education, and hold positions of influence. This balance was woven into their spiritual life as well as demonstrated with their celebration of the spring-vernal equinox - a time when day and night are once again in balance.

This ancient multi‑day Celtic festival was called Ostara, and it honored nature’s rebirth, offering a spiritual invitation of a fresh start for all.

As Christianity spread through Celtic regions, newer holidays—St. Patrick’s Day and later Easter were layered onto this older season of renewal.

Some traditions describe St. Patrick as a teacher of kindness and inclusion, while others note how the patriarchal structures accompanying his Christian teachings gradually displaced the earlier cultural balance between genders.

The shamrock, which St. Patrick used to teach the Christian Trinity, also carried earlier meanings. In many mystical traditions—including those Jesus is said to have learned from desert mothers and fathers—the “Law of Three” explained how opposing forces can be held with presence and love to create a third, harmonizing way.

Perhaps this is why the rare four‑leaf clover, which remains a significant part of March celebrations, symbolizes luck. Maybe it’s not luck at all, but a reminder of what becomes possible when we meet life with an open mind, a steady body, and a generous heart.

As we move through this season of celebration and rebirth, here are two invitations to carry with you:

▪ Reclaim a mindset of shared respect and responsibility - inclusion, equality, and compassion.
▪ Embrace your own process of rebirth and renewal—what do you need to admit and release within yourself to allow transformation?

Intentional Yoga

In yoga, we begin by arriving fully in the body, creating new neural pathways that reconnect us with our instinctive wisdom. Through intentional movement, the mind begins to integrate, opening space for curiosity and the gentle presence of our inner observer. With body and mind aligned, we can explore the deeper intelligence of the heart—the place where we remember that we are love, that we are loved, and that we are capable of offering love. Yoga becomes far more than stretching or moving; it becomes a practice of returning to wholeness.
