"...the passing pleasures of sin."
-Hebrews 11:25
A recent article in the Wall Street Journal was entitled “We Are Starting to Enjoy Hatred" as if it has never been done before. The writer, no doubt, was referring to the political environment that exists today. We know that hatred has always been a present evil since the fall of man. The hatred of God was made manifest by the hatred of His Son. Jesus said the same hatred would be ours as a follower of Him. We even see hatred in the church when those who claim to know God prove otherwise by hating the true child of God. "If someone says, ‘I love God' and hates his brother, he is a liar.” All the hatred mentioned above can be labeled “the passing pleasures of sin.” Sin has an enjoyable side even though it is passing. But we read in Scripture, “for we were once foolish ourselves... spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another." But coming to Christ for salvation by faith alone, being forgiven, we forgive, having received mercy, we are merciful, having been loved by God, we can now love our enemies just as He did. What is truly enjoyable is being a new creation in Christ. Be encouraged!
