"In everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

- 1 Thessalonians 5:18

As we gather for Thanksgiving we have so much to be thankful for, most importantly our relationship with the Lord, the forgiveness of our sin and the free gift of eternal life. We could also mention family, food and friends. But one might ask, ‘How can we give thanks in everything when we often face unpleasant or difficult circumstances?’ The answer is found in Romans 8:28 where we read,” And we know that God causes all things to work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” If all things work for good, then we can give thanks in everything. For example, if you are facing a hardship right now and it brings you to a place of humility, give thanks. Why? Because God is at work in you so that in your humble state, you are becoming more like Christ. His overall purpose for you is to be “conformed to the image of His Son” so “it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” And to do so, God uses both the good and the bad (all things) so that in everything, we can give thanks. Be encouraged!
