“...For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.”
-Isaiah 5:24
As believers in Christ, we often find it difficult to understand the liberal and progressive mindset. Why are people who identify themselves as liberal/progressive so opposed to Christianity yet sympathetic to other religions? They grew up in a country fully exposed to Christianity, some raised in Christian homes, once a part of the church, and even some claiming, at one time, to be Christians. They see the church as archaic, no longer believable, and too restrictive for their progressive lifestyle. In the end, they not only reject Christianity but resent it. At the same time, these liberal thinkers are sympathetic to other religions such as Islam. They even seem to welcome it as an opposition to Christianity. Islam to them is a distant creed with no one telling them to believe in Allah or submit to Islam's commands. The Koran, from a foreign land, poses no threat, for to progressives, the Bible is the book of the enemy. But to us who have not rejected or despised the Word of the Lord but have accepted it by faith, it will always be "beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life." Be encouraged!
