"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
-James 4:7
In this Scripture, “submit” means to place oneself under the care and command of God. The word “resist” means to stand firm and oppose. Both of these are military terms and, therefore, imperatives by our Commander and Chief. How did Christ stand firm and resist the devil in the wilderness? He faced each temptation by quoting Scripture, and “the devil left Him.” The Psalmist encourages us to stand firm and resist the temptations of the devil in the same way. “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee”. It is never too late to begin memorizing Scripture. It will bless you and give you wisdom and protection for the rest of your life. Therefore, “let the word of Christ richly dwell within you...” Be encouraged!
