"Do not love the world, nor the things in the world."
-1 John 2:15
Why are we so prone to love the world? I am afraid that many who name the Name of Christ are more consumed with what the world has to offer rather than what the Lord has to offer. Simeon said, "Now Lord, Thou dost let Thy bond-servant depart in peace". Steven cried out, "Lord Jesus receive my Spirit!" Paul wrote, "I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord". What did these men have in common? For them the grave had lost its terror and the world had lost its charm. They knew where they were going and there was nothing in the world to hold them back. In the face of death, they did not hesitate, knowing the best was to come. Is the world losing its appeal for you? It should, for "the world is passing away". Be encouraged! "For if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's".
