“And have mercy on some, who are doubting.”
- Jude 22
No one is beyond doubting in certain situations. It was true of Peter and Thomas in the gospels, and all of the disciples from time to time. One who has sincere doubts troubling him needs the mercy of others. Every believer is a recipient of God’s mercy. “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy…” Although we have already received His mercy, its greatest measure will be ours when we enter into His presence. Most often the word “doubting” is used of the believer as a weakness of faith. With mercy we are to reach out to them and share with them the Word which is able to build their faith. When we cross paths with people who doubt the salvation that comes through Jesus Christ, we need to reach out in mercy, share the gospel and assure them the Lord is not wishing that any should perish. We can be merciful to others because we know that in our sinful state the Lord was merciful to us. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” Be encouraged!
