"But Jonah rose up to flee... from the presence of the Lord."
-Jonah 1:3
When Jonah chose to flee in disobedience from the Lord, he went down. First, he went down to Joppa. Then he went down into a ship. Then he went down into the sea. Finally, he went down into the belly of a great fish. So it is when a believer lives in disobedience to the Lord. A downward spiral begins that can bring us down to spiritual, emotional and even physical defeat. Is there any hope? First, when you lack the faith to obey His word, know that "He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself." Secondly, remember, "He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." God never gave up on Jonah, and He will not give up on you. In an act of great kindness, God delivered Jonah up from the depths, and Jonah responded in repentance and obedience. This is why we read, "The kindness of God leads you to repentance." Are you running from the Lord? Have you chosen disobedience rather than drawing near to Him? Having experienced His kindness in salvation, repent and turn back to Him, knowing He will never let you down. Be encouraged!
