"Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins."
- 1 Peter 4:8
It was recently reported that falsehood travels six times faster than truth. Surely, we did not need an extensive study to prove that. People are so prone to gossip, spreading rumors and false accusations. Sadly, this is even true among believers. When we hear something bad about another believer, we should first, of all go to that believer to hear the other side of the story and see if it is true. Very seldom does this happen. Most often it even makes those who claim to be the most mature look ungodly as they join in. Christians have a higher calling. It is written that we cannot love God if we do not love each other and that love covers a multitude of sins, not gossip, not rumor, not falsehood but actual sin. That is our higher calling. Too many Christians, apparently, do not realize that when they spread harmful things about another Christian, they not only harm the believer but also the church and the cause of Christ. Jesus commands us to “love one another even as I have loved you.” Is there any sin of yours that the Lord in His love has not covered? God’s love has never failed you and you are called to not fail your brother. Love covers a multitude of (unlimited) sins. Be encouraged!
