"For many walk, of whom I often told you… that they are enemies of the cross of Christ."
- Philippians 3:18
Paul followed the pattern of biblical revelation by warning of the dangers of false teachers. Every book of the New Testament, with the exception of Philemon, is full of warnings. Yet, there are many today who ignore or despise warnings. Beginning with Adam and Eve, mankind in general, often fails to respond to warnings. In the late 1800’s the residents of Johnstown, Pennsylvania were warned of the danger of a dam breaking above the city. Few heeded the warning and in a few minutes a thirty foot wall of water swept over 2,000 people to their death. People are told not to drive across flooded roads, yet they do. They are told not to text and drive, yet they do. They are told not to live self-indulgent life-styles, yet they do. All can be deadly. Enemies of the cross who downplay the necessity and sufficiency of the cross fail to warn about the consequences of sin. The Bible warns that “through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death spreads to all men, because all sinned.” Thankfully, we read that even though “the wages of sin is death the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Have you heeded the warnings about your sin and placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? If so, praise the Lord for the warnings. Be encouraged!
