"Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you..."

-Colossians 3:16

Why is there such a perception today that we need more than the Bible? For years now, we have had the integration of psychology into Scripture. The Charismatics often claim they have special words from the Lord. Most recently, churches such as the Presbyterian USA decided that the Scripture needs an added touch of tolerance and political correctness. In a best-selling devotional book the author writes, “I knew that God communicated with me through the Bible, but I yearned for more.” Her devotional is built on the premise that Jesus speaks directly to her outside of Scripture. I am reminded of the words of Spurgeon, “Believer! There is enough in the Bible for thee to live upon forever. If thou shouldest outnumber the years of Methuselah, there would be no need for fresh revelation; if thou shouldest live till Christ should come, there would be no necessity for the addition of a single word…” The Scripture would agree, “Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words…” You have a Bible. You have what you need. Be encouraged!
