“Rejoice Always”

-1 Thessalonians 5:16

In Proverbs we read, "A joyful heart is good medicine." Medical research informs us that those who are happy and frequently laugh in life are less susceptible to health issues. But many seem to have lost their joy because of the fear and the fear-mongering of COVID-19. But shouldn't we be joyful? The Lord Himself expressed, "…that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full". Joy is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit who indwells us. So why not rejoice always? But you might ask, what about rejoicing during such difficult times? James would say, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials…”. Jesus said in the midst of persecution we should “Rejoice and be glad…”. In one of his many letters concerning Paul, John Newton wrote, "The Apostle exhorts believers to rejoice in the Lord always." Then Newton adds, "…it’s as if he had said…I call upon you to rejoice, not at sometimes only, but at all times; not only when on the mount, but when in the valley; not only when you conquer, but when you are fighting; not only when the Lord shines upon you, but when He seems to hide his face". There doesn't seem to be anyone who is an expert or fully understands the virus of COVID-19, but the Lord does. Therefore, do not live in fear. Rejoice always! Be encouraged!
