“It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”
- Proverbs 16:19
When called of God, Moses said he was “slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Gideon said, “I am the youngest of my father’s house”. Isaiah said, “I am a man of unclean lips”. And Paul declared that when it comes to sinners, “I am foremost of all”. In the biographies of Wesley, Whitefield and McCheyne we see much of the same. All of these people had three important things in common. First, they understood, at least in part, the greatness of God. They knew He was the Almighty, the Creator, holy and just, infinite in wisdom and purity. Second, they knew they could not please Him and accomplish His purposes according to their own ability and strength. Third, knowing the greatness of God, they saw themselves as unworthy sinners. The more we see God as He is and ourselves as we really are, the more we realize the immeasurable distance between ourselves and God. That is a void only the Lord Jesus Christ can fill. Do you feel God is perfect and you are not? Be encouraged! This is right where you need to be, trusting in Jesus!
