"Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change..."
- Psalm 46:2
On January 1, 1899, T.T. Shields penned these words, “On the threshold of this new year… I would have you pause and rejoicingly remember… amid the many new, untried and changing things, we shall have no new or untried Bible, no new or untried Gospel, no new or untried God!” Shields could not even fathom the changes that would take place in the world ahead, any more than we can for the coming year. We may face unexpected changes in our relationships, careers, health and wealth. But there are some things we can know with absolute certainty. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away”. We have believed and been entrusted with the eternal gospel, the gospel of God, the gospel of His Son, the gospel of peace. We have a God who said, “For I, the Lord, do not change”, and a great God and Savior who is “the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” No doubt, in 2019 we may face some unexpected changes, but we will not fear. We will, by faith, stand on the immutability of the Bible, the Gospel and our God. Be encouraged!
