“Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
-Nehemiah 8:10
Scientific medical studies have revealed that prescribed drugs' cumulative risks and side effects may outweigh the benefits. Those side effects include reduced brain function, loss of physical stamina and depression. Yet, according to the National Center for Health, sixty-six percent of all Americans take prescription drugs, and thirty-nine percent of seniors take five or more prescription drugs per day. According to the center, many are taking drugs they do not really need, influenced by continual big pharma advertising that tells them, without even going to a doctor, that this is what they need. The Scripture, however, tells us that “A joyful heart is good medicine…” It is not only good medicine for the individual believer but also good medicine for a world looking on. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit and a good benefit of knowing Christ as your Savior. “O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation,” for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Be encouraged!
