"Now those things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction..."

- 1 Corinthians 10:11

The Old Testament gives us examples of how God reacts to sin in a nation, and these were recorded for our instruction. In Judah, the people disobeyed God’s command not to marry foreign wives which led to their worship of foreign gods which led to the sacrifice of their children to false gods. In America, the people have disobeyed God’s moral commands which has led to the worship of self which has led to the sacrifice of 60 million of our children to death by abortion. Before Judah was conquered by a foreign king, God gave them leaders who, with few exceptions, were just like themselves. These sinful leaders did evil in the sight of God and led the nation into greater sin. Since God is sovereign over the nations, do we not see the same at work in this 2016 presidential election? Based upon the Old Testament example, this is clear evidence that God is not passive with our nation’s sin. The greatest proof that God is never passive concerning sin is the giving of His Son to die for our sins. So, in the midst of all the confusion, clutter, corruption and yes, evil in this nation, the cross of Christ provides for us a Word of Encouragement!
