"But I am afraid... your mind should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ."

-Corinthians 11:3

When Paul penned these words, he was concerned about those who had come to Christ being led astray by the deceit and theological confusion found right within the church. How can we, in 2024, remain faithful to Christ when the same is increasing in the church today? In my nearly 60 years of knowing Christ the Lord, by His grace He has protected me from getting caught up in the many modern movements and theological extremes that seem to come at us one right after another. Since childlike faith rests upon God's Word, it is important we start the year with Scripture. In 2024, let us make sure we are reading the Word, meditating on the meaning of the Word, letting the Scripture explain the Scripture, and making sure that the Holy Spirit is our greatest Teacher. Sound pretty simple? Yes, it is, but it is vital to having a simple and pure devotion to Jesus Christ and being protected from the deception and confusion found within Christianity, not just today but year after year. We hold in our hands the Word of the Lord, and "the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple." In 2024, may we, by being students of the Word, be blessed with the wisdom that comes only from the Lord. Be encouraged!
