“Is it not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, a righteous God and Savior; There is none except Me.”
-Isaiah 45:21
In the history of the church, there have been those who have taught that Jesus was only a man, rejecting His deity. Others taught that He had no flesh and was only a phantom. Some thought He was not eternal and only achieved divinity through His sufferings and that He was a created being. But who is Jesus? We may not be able to fully comprehend the hypostatic or one-person union of the divine and human natures, but the Scripture is clear that Jesus is the God-man, very God, and very man. As God, He is the only perfect and acceptable sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of God concerning our sins. As man, He could die and shed His blood as the propitiation for the sins of the whole world. Therefore, we read in Isaiah, “I, even I, am the Lord; And there is no Savior besides Me." In John's gospel, beginning with the testimony of an ungodly woman who came to Christ, many of the Samaritan city came to believe and to "know that this one is indeed the Savior of the world." Do you know and believe that Christ, very God, and very man, is the only one who can take away your sin? Then be encouraged!
