"...for I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with the voice of joy and thanksgiving..."
- Psalm 42:4
One of the major movements in American Christianity today is the departure from the church by those who claim they are Christians and love Jesus, but do not want to be a part of the church or organized religion. According to Pew research, 27% of Americans are now self-proclaimed “spiritual, but not religious”. In the Age of Self, personal experience and felt needs reign over the commands of Scripture. According to Barna research, 64% of millennials do not see the Bible as any more important than other religious books. Therefore, to “consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near” is no longer appealing. May we be like the Psalmist who said, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’”? See you in church on Sunday. Come with joy and thanksgiving. Bring someone with you. Bring your Bible. Be encouraged!
