"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

-James 4:8

Not wanting us to live like sinners but as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, James gives four requirements for walking in a close relationship with God. The first is clean hands. We must not be physically or actively involved in that which God forbids or dishonors Him. Secondly, a pure heart. We must not be involved mentally or emotionally in that which God forbids or dishonors Him. We cannot love God and love the world. We cannot serve God and mammon. As in James chapter one, we are warned about being double-minded. Third, we must be serious and disciplined concerning sin. Temptation is often sudden and unexpected. Fourth, we must be humble before God and not have a self-sufficient spirit. Yes, we struggle with sin, loyalty to God and pride that will distance us from Him. But the end result of drawing near to God is that He will draw near to you, and He will exalt you. Be encouraged!
