"...Christ died for the ungodly."
- Romans 5:6
The death of Christ for sinners has no parallel in human history. When He created the heavens and earth, it cost Him nothing. He created it out of nothing. There was no effort involved for He literally spoke it into existence. But when Christ died for the ungodly, it came at an unparalleled cost. Large sums of money have been paid by families to seek the return of a loved one from captivity. Governments’ have paid huge ransoms to redeem one of their citizens from the same. To redeem the ungodly, the ransom for Christ was He Himself. Who but Jesus would give Himself a ransom for His enemies? We read in Scripture that we were “not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold… but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.”
For Christ to redeem us cost Him the agony of Gethsemane and the suffering and death of the cross. He, in person, with His person purchased our salvation. The Father withheld nothing that we might be saved. Therefore we read, “He did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” What do we really need that we cannot find in Jesus? Be encouraged!
