Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
- Psalm 25:16
For the believer who really wants to remain true to the gospel, America has become a lonely place. We now live in a nation dominated by political correctness where good is called evil and evil good, where murder is the norm and terror increasingly raises its ugly head and where much of the church has abandoned the cause of Christ for self-fulfillment. Loneliness was the lot of Elijah when in the midst of the sins of Israel he cried out, “I alone am left.” Christ knew the same when rejected by His own country and put to death by godless men. Hudson Taylor, alone in China wrote, “Envied by some, despised by many, hated by others… had not the Lord been specially gracious to me… I must have fainted or broken down.” Yet, he wrote, “He has never failed me; but because I was enabled by His grace to trust Him, He has always appeared for my help. I delight in speaking well of His name.” And yes, the Lord’s grace is sufficient for you. Do not let the loneliness of living in the midst of spiritual poverty keep you from being true to the gospel, from making Christ known or from speaking well of His name. Be encouraged!
