"But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells."
- 2 Peter 3:13
Following the Resurrection and Pentecost, the early church was made up of Jewish believers. They did not spend their time and prayers in an attempt to save the Temple for they knew it was sealed in Scripture that “not one stone here shall be left upon another, which will not be torn down.” Nor did they spend their time and prayers on trying to save the nation for it was written, “I will scatter them among the nations, and spread them among the countries”. Instead, they spent their time and prayers in the saving of that which could be saved; the sinner from sin. We are to be good stewards of what God has given us but we are not called to save the planet for it is written, “the earth and its works will be burned up.” Nor are we called to save the nation for in the end He will come and “smite the nations”. May we spend our time and prayers on that which is redeemable. A godly woman recently passed away and at her service the pastor quoted her words: “When you die you cannot take anything with you except those you witnessed to that accepted the Lord. Some will greet you then and others when they come home.” Look around! Who, by God’s grace and mercy, can you take home to heaven with you? Be encouraged!
