“...to those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. ”
- Jude 1
Before Jude writes of the apostasy that will enter the church prior to the coming of the Lord, he pens some words of great comfort for all who know the Lord. Paul wrote that before “the day of the Lord comes… it will not come unless the apostasy comes first…” In many ways, apostasy, which is a turning away from the truth, has already entered the church. We have churches today that accept and even ordain those who live in moral perversion. A growing number of professing Christians believe everyone worships the same God and that there are many ways to heaven. A focus on the temporal, ear tickling through sermon lite and entertainment is espoused in many a pulpit today. Surveys show that nearly 80% of Americans have some identity with Christianity yet only 58% believe in the God of the Bible, and the New Testament tells us that things will only get worse. But, as believers we do not have to live in fear that the growing apostasy will sweep us away. No matter what lies ahead in the world, in the church or in our personal lives, the assurance we have from the God of the Bible is that someday we will be with Jesus! Be encouraged!
