"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain..."
- Deuteronomy 5:11
I have written hundreds of sermons and articles over the years but have never abbreviated the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Years ago, I was appalled when a seminary student did a presentation referring to the Lord Jesus Christ by His initials. I have walked out of movies and turned off the TV because the Lord’s name was used in vain. There have been times when I have asked someone not to take the Lord’s name in vain in my presence. Does this place me among the spiritual elite? No! It is a simple conviction that all believers should have coming from the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. There has never been a more important name. In John 1:12, it is by His name, referring to His person, that salvation comes to all who believe. Because the Lord Jesus Christ humbled Himself and died on the cross for our sins, “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.” What a joy and blessing to personally know and to proclaim with reverence the One who has the greatest name. Be encouraged!
