"O love the Lord, all you His godly ones!"
- Psalm 31:23
Usually, the themes of Navajo fairs are centered on maintaining their traditions, which are passed down from generation to generation. However, the Western Navajo Fair, in October, departed from the norm when it chose “Living Your Best Rez Life" as its theme. It seems the author of the book, "Your Best Life Now," has influenced some on the Reservation. It is hard to believe they would choose this when, as a people, alcoholism, unemployment, domestic abuse and teenage suicide are some of the highest in the nation. But sadly, for many the world over, it is their best life now. Like the rich man of Luke 12, who said to himself, "…take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry" with no consideration that he would soon be in eternal hell. As believers, we have hope, peace, the forgiveness of sin and much more, but is this our best life now? "But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’” We cannot even imagine how great life will be when we spend eternity with our Lord and Savior, free from sin, sorrow and the sting of death. So, love the Lord and be encouraged!
