"For they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God."

- John 12:43

John was writing of those who claimed to be believers yet were unwilling to confess Christ openly as their Savior. Too often, Christians are intimidated in telling others about Christ because they fear a negative response. It is unfortunate that so many place the acceptance or friendship of others above the greater need to make Christ known to them. Rather than demonstrate to those around them how vital knowing Christ is, their acquaintances and friends have the greater importance. Paul perhaps said it best when he wrote, "I am not ashamed of the gospel…" How are people going to believe if they do not hear about Christ and how are they going to hear if we do not tell them. Therefore, do not be intimidated by the response of others but tell them what they really need to hear. May we say with the hymn writer –

I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause;
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I'd rather have Jesus than worldwide fame.
I'd rather be true to His holy name.

Be encouraged!
