"The heavens are Thine, the earth also is Thine; The world and all it contains, Thou hast founded them."
-Psalm 89:11
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a 16-page report linking climate change to mental health and psychosocial well-being. According to the WHO, "witnessing changes and damage" and "awareness of climate change and extreme weather events and their impact” could lead to strained social relationships, anxiety, depression, intimate partner violence, helplessness, alcohol, and substance abuse, among other things. The reporting article even stated, "anxiety about apocalyptic predictions." The Bible is full of apocalyptic predictions, and the Book of Revelation is called the apocalypse. God has foretold in much detail what leads up to the end of this present creation and beyond that to a new heaven and new earth in eternity. He doesn't tell us about all the judgments that will come upon this world which Jesus describes as “such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world, nor ever shall be” to cause anxiety, depression or fear. He wants us to know He is the sovereign God. He will determine the outcome of human history. As believers, He wants us to know that we are not looking for a catastrophic climatic event. Like Abraham, we are "looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God." For "according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells." Be encouraged!
