Facing Resistance

When you are stressed, you are putting yourself up against the unknown.

Instead of welcoming it, sitting with it, breathing with it, surfing with it, you fight the fear and find yourself in the throes of resistance.

"What you resist persists."

What if instead you learned to be aware of your resistance and then shift your perception?

What if you understood how to make room for the unknown; possibilities outside of your ego's current lens?

What if, as Pema Chodron shares, "it may be just the beginning of a great adventure"?

Check out what is offered this week to support you in building awareness, insight, creativity, practice, and ultimately, conscious choice.

Creativity Challenge

100 days October 11th through December 11th

This week’s theme is Perception.

I will share prompts that invite your brain to be creative; to see the familiar in unfamiliar ways, so each day below pushes a different perceptual shift.

Think how this kind of exercise will support stepping out of stress and instead, making a difference that supports you.

Here are the focuses for this week's seven invitations:

▪ Change the Frame
▪ Zoom in, Zoom out
▪ Opposites
▪ The Unrelated
▪ Someone else's eyes
▪ Twist
▪ Shift

Yoga

I am excited to do yoga with you!!

Intentional Yoga

Yoga helps regulate the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which are central to the body’s stress response.

Stanford University shares, "By engaging in yoga postures and controlled breathing, signals from the body to the brain can reduce the “fight, flight, or freeze” response, while conscious mental focus promotes relaxation and emotional regulation. This dual top-down and bottom-up communication can lower cortisol levels, improve heart rate variability, and increase the release of calming neurotransmitters like GABA."

Anca shares this update…

This week nothing went to plan.

I rarely have a plan anymore, or maybe a very loose one. But even to my surprise, I actually had a plan—a plan that was refined, extra communicated, followed up on… and the only thing left was execution.

Except, on the morning of execution, the first domino didn't actually execute.

Which caused a complete whirlwind of all kinds of things that didn't actually go according to my carefully laid-out plan. Does this frustration feel familiar?

It's not just anger. The investment of all that forethought and preparation can feel wasted in one short moment. So grief is also very present in such instances. And then there's the movement that follows.

The urge to regain control. To reorganize, correct, intervene, make sure the next domino falls where it's supposed to. Sometimes there's a genuine need to do all those things. But I'm curious about something else.

When things don't go according to my plan, what exactly am I trying to restore?

The plan itself? The outcome I was expecting? The time and energy I've invested? Or perhaps my own sense of stability in the middle of it all?

There's a difference between having the capacity to organize something and needing that organization to remain intact in order for me to feel okay.

And that difference can become remarkably difficult to recognize when everything starts falling apart and the soup of emotions is running through your system.

This is where self-awareness practices actually become useful—if we bring them out of our curated, high-vibe spiritual spaces and into messy life.

But there's one more thing: having self-awareness and being capable of using that self-awareness can be two very different things. Becoming aware of the distance between two is information about the Self that's immensely valuable and useful. It brings us to:

When everything starts falling apart, how much of my awareness is actually available to me?

We practice these capacities through LOCATE and REMAIN and their integration happens in our own time, through our own experiences. I'm making these programs self-guided. There's a structure to work with, but no expectation that your integration should follow a particular timeline. You can return to the practices as often as you need, at your own pace, while life gives you plenty of opportunities to discover what's becoming available. Find them at Beyond Orion.

Have a beautiful week. And may your dominoes cooperate a little better than mine did. :)

Special Enneagram Event

Finding our way to the Enneagram heart wounds

Host: Nancy Markow

Presenter: Cicci Lyckow Bäckman — Enneagram Expert and author

Friday, 11/13 13⋅10–12:00 pm

Portals into the deeper layers | Finding our way to the Enneagram heart wounds

Anyone who’s been engaged in an inner growth practice has experienced it: something hitting a little too close to home, whereupon the ego either redirects our attention elsewhere or proceeds to ‘explore’ from a purely mental standpoint. In this workshop, we will explore how we can go deeper through direct experience without spooking the ego, with the ‘heart wounds’ described by Russ Hudson as our focus.

Through teaching, conversation, and exercises, we will look at ways to explore the heart wounds both directly and in a roundabout way which, surprisingly, gives us a more direct route to the experiential realm.

Bio: Cicci Lyckow Bäckman is a writer, teacher and facilitator of experiential inner work, with 25+ years of experience. Her work centres on reconnecting with the deeper self beneath personality, roles and self-image, drawing on the Enneagram, meditation, somatic awareness and emotional work to gently explore the things we take to be 'us'. She loves helping intermediate students and practitioners move beyond mere understanding into the direct experience of what lies beneath their patterns — where real change becomes possible.

A Gentle Challenge:

from Melody West,

I've been spending hours developing and practicing my Well of Resilience presentation. It's all about recognizing what fills our well, what drains it, and the importance of keeping it replenished. And what have I been doing? Letting my own well run low while teaching others how to fill theirs!

Ha!

As I write this, I know it's exactly the timely reminder I needed. Even when life is giving us exactly what we've been hoping for, we still need to pay attention and take care of our own needs. Balance isn't something we achieve once. We have to constantly keep adapting and adjusting in our daily lives.

So today, I’m choosing to keep this Musing short and take some time to refill my own well of resilience!

What's growing in your life right now?

▪ Is it filling your well, draining it, or perhaps a little of both?
▪ And where might you need to make a small adjustment?
