"In no way alarmed by your opponents – which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God."

- Philippians 1:28

In our human nature we want everyone to like us and we want to be absent of conflict and opposition. But, biblically speaking this is impossible for the believer. The Lord himself said, “Woe to you when all men speak well of you” and “…because you are not of the world … the world hates you.” Opposition to our faith and reputation brings a distinction between the saved and the lost. While they are destroying their souls, the end result for you is blessing, reward and glory. Chyrsostom said of the faithful believer, “For if you take away his money, you have become the procurer of a reward to him. If you speak ill of him, by the evil report he gains fresh lustre in God’s sight. If you cast him into starvation, the more will his glory and reward be. If you give him over to death, you are twining a crown of martyrdom about him.” Yes, no one wants conflict and opposition but there is a godly purpose for such. Therefore, “for to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.” And, “we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Be encouraged!
