"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it."
- 1 Corinthians 10:13
As believers, we face temptation every day. James writes, “But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.” When we became Christians we entered the warfare between the flesh and the Spirit. “For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…” Paul was concerned for the Thessalonians, “that the tempter might have tempted” them just like the Devil tempted our Lord. But we read in Scripture, “For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted” for “the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation…” Andrew Bonar writes, “He will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able. He meant for you to feel the stress and weight of the trial but He never meant for you to be crushed under it. There is majesty here. “He will not suffer.” He will not allow Satan to tempt you too much. Be of good cheer.” Be encouraged!
