Savage Queen

Hello Friends of the Vision Theatre and the Leimert Park Village Campus!

Plan to join us on Monday, June 18th, at 7:00 pm as we wind up the 5th Annual Readers Theater Season where we read 6 unique plays with culmination and reading of Playwright Edgar Chisolm's

"SAVAGE QUEEN"

Directed by Nina Womack, with a cast of talented actors, our 2018 closing night performance of "Savage Queen" promises to be a winner as we gear up for the 5th Annual Leimert Park Festival of Staged Readings opening August 23rd through September 3rd, 2018 (Labor Day).

We invite you to join us and support the new “Leimert Park Village Campus” and the efforts of the office of Councilman Herb Wesson, the Leimert Park Stakeholders, and the Vision Theater Consortium to revitalize Black Theater and the arts in South Los Angeles. Once the hot bed of theater that claimed the Inner City Cultural Center, the Ebony Showcase Theater, Frances William Corner Playhouse, PASLA, Crossroads Arts Academy, Inglewood Playhouse, Foxx Follies, the Watts Writers Workshop and the Mufundi Institute, our future is very bright with plans to bring back many of those theater companies to Leimert Park Village following the final restoration and construction of the Leimert Park Vision Theatre, and the opening of the Crenshaw Metro Gold Line in 2019.

So come out and enjoy a night in Leimert Park. For ticket information call (323) 290-2386 or email.

LA Commons will host its 8th Annual Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks in Leimert Park, the African American cultural hub of Los Angeles. This year’s festival is highlighting Brazil and its diasporic, artistic connections to Leimert Park.

Brazil itself is a key node in African culture and is home to one of the world’s largest populations of Black people, second only to Nigeria. The vibrant spirit of this country will be on full display at the Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks, including dynamic drumming and Samba.

Celebrate City Sisterhood: Salvador meets South LA! There is a fundraising element to the festival this year. We have a VIP hospitality tent which will transport you to Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, LA's sister city and this year's featured diaspora country.

For only $45, it's a lovely way to experience the festival, as while contributing to LA Commons, you can chill in a special tent with delicious Brazilian snacks, tropical punches and a great gift bag that includes our always in demand T-shirt.
